The Story of a Forgotten Flower and its Curious Rediscovery.
In the last decades of the 19th century, the intensely fragrant blossoms of an exotic shrub known as Volcameria or Volcamiria enjoyed notable popularity in the world of perfumery. Traditional fragrance houses such as Roger & Gallet of Paris and John Gosnell of London sold Volcamiria perfumes, but around the turn of the century, the popularity of the flower seemingly faded, and related products were discontinued.
The plant and its story in perfumery seemed lost in obscurity, until ⸺ more than one hundred years later ⸺ WIENERBLUT stumbled upon an old formula in the archives of the Nationalbibliothek in Vienna. The name of this formula, likely due to flawed translation, was Volkamaria. After two years of research, which included solving the riddle of the improperly translated name, acquiring saplings by air delivery and finally cultivating the plant, WienerBlut set out to recreate a fragrance around the Volcamiria theme.
Volkmaria, a unisex Eau de Parfum with a creamy and slightly narcotic floral core, has become one of WienerBlut’s signature scents, as it is one of the few fresh Iris formulas in the Market.

EX VOTO
Within the silence of the sacred stone walls and smooth marble floors, flickering altar candles radiate hints of wax, ashes and chilled frankincense.
NORD DU NORD
High above the mountain forests, between snow fields and bare rock, the crystal-clear nocturnal sky carries the scent of cold wood and eternal ice.
HESPERIA
From the open doors of the Orangerie, bright notes of green and golden citrus flow into the crisp morning air of the palace gardens.
ELYSION
A fragrance as intangible as Klimt’s golden vision of the Elysian Fields: “an ideal realm, wherein alone we can find pure joy, pure happiness, pure love.” It wears like a subtle, immaterial cloak of bright light, verdant freshness and subdued florality.
UNHEIMLICH
According to Freud, the uncanny is the familiar and the unfamiliar at once. This fragrance is an attempt to capture that quality: Dark, clean, dirty, innocent, erotic, unsettling and intriguing at the same time, there is no familiar category that fits this composition.
KLUBWASSER
Freshly broken twigs, spiced grasses and dark green nettles mark the path of the noble savage through the undergrowth of the wooded hills.
